W3

Monday:

  • Read the text and make notes/discuss your initial response to the text.
  • Did you like it?
  • What did/didn’t you like about it?
  • Does it remind you of anything that’s happened to you?
  • Does it remind you of anything else you’ve read or watched? In what ways?
  • What questions does it make you want to ask about the text?
  • Read the text again and highlight/underline any unfamiliar words that you come across.
  • Can you guess the meaning of these words by reading around them?
  • Are there clues that might help you work out the meaning (capital letters, prefixes, suffixes)?
  • Now look up these words in a dictionary or online dictionary and find their meaning.
  • Can you find any synonyms for these words (other words that have the same meaning)?
  • Try using at least one of these words in a sentence.

Wednesday:

  • Read the text again and summarise it in as few words as possible. Remember, a summary only includes the important information or details that are essential to the text’s meaning.
  • Now answer the first half of the questions provided on the worksheet. Don’t forget to keep referring back to the text as you answer and checking your answers make sense.
  • Before answering the questions, try and think which reading skills you’re going to need to answer each of the questions. Is the answer going to be in the text or are you going to need to use your inference skills and your understanding of the text to think of an answer?
  • When answering the questions, don’t forget to highlight or underline the part of the text that provides you with the answer.

Friday

  • Complete the remaining questions.
  • Check ALL of your answers and make sure you’re happy with them. When you’re satisfied, use the answers provided to check.
  • If any of the answers are different to yours, go back through the text and see if you can find evidence for the correct answers.
